North Anchorage includes Eagle River bed and breakfasts, as well as B&Bs in the communities of Peter’s Creek and Chugiak, AK. From a North Anchorage bed and breakfast, visitors can easily reach the military bases, Thunderbird Falls, Eklutna Village and Eklutna Lake, as well as the Eagle River Nature Center , making our B&Bs a convenient alternative to hotel lodging when you travel to this region.
While we have divided Anchorage into different sections, it is important to note that everything is close within Anchorage. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city and has all the amenities of living in a city, yet it is a city where it is easy to get from one place to another within 20 minutes by car.
The military bases in the Anchorage area are Elemendorf AFB and Ft. Richardson Army Post.
Thunderbird Falls is a small waterfall located in Chugach State Park. It is a short hike from the parking lot to the waterfall. The beginning of the hike is up a steep hill after which the hike is on a mostly level trail , making it a great activity to be enjoyed by the whole family.
Eklutna Village Historical Park
Dating back to 1650, the park is the area's oldest continuously inhabited Athabaskan Indian settlement. St. Nicholas Church, Anchorage’s oldest standing building, was established here by Russian Orthodox missionaries who arrived in the early 1800s. The park also provides a spectacular glacier view with opportunities to view wildlife, including foxes, eagles, and black bears.
Eklutna Lake Valley provides fun outdoor recreation year-round. In the summer enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, climbing, picnicking, fishing, boating, and riding ATVs. In the winter there’s cross-country skiing, dog mushing, and snowmobiling. Year-round activities include camping, wildlife-viewing and photography.
